Signs & Designs changes ownership; stays local
Cedar Falls, IA – Signs & Designs, a well-known custom sign shop in the Cedar Valley, is now in new hands. Joe and Melissa Barber of Waverly recently acquired the company from founders Dave and Linda Schachterle.
“We have truly enjoyed working with our customers and friends throughout the Cedar Valley for the last 30 years,” said Dave. “We’ve had the chance to create some amazing projects along the way. We’re excited that the shop is staying in local hands, and I’m looking forward to working with Joe and Melissa.”
“Having been part of the Cedar Valley since we arrived here as students at UNI, we felt it was important to identify a family-owned business that had a desire to keep the ownership local,” said Joe Barber. “When we connected with Dave and Linda, we knew we had found a solid business with a great reputation and a desire to provide ongoing opportunities for their employees and the community as a whole. It’s exactly what we were looking for.”
Signs & Designs was founded in 1981 by the Schachterles in Iowa Falls. Moving to downtown Cedar Falls in 1990, the company soon expanded and is now based in the Cedar Falls Industrial Park.
“Signs & Designs is known for its creativity and ability to fabricate unique designs that stand out of the crowd,” said Melissa Barber. “They have a great team in place already and we’re excited to add our talents into the mix. We’re especially fortunate that Dave has agreed to stay on and share his wisdom!”
The business connection was made via Dan Beenken and the new Succession Iowa program through UNI. Previously, Joe spent 23 years at Iowa Laser Technology, before joining Natural Soy Products in Cedar Falls in 2017. Melissa founded Melissa Barber Marketing in 2007, a marketing firm serving small businesses across the Cedar Valley.
Signs & Designs offers custom signs, LED message boards, awnings, vehicle wraps, tradeshow displays, wayfinding signs and more.
